CNSF Sponsors An Alternative Middle School Team
Working in the community to help those in need

The CNSF expanded it’s outreach by sponsoring a Fairfax County Public Schools alternative middle school soccer team for two indoor seasons. The Burke Center School team, the Bears, was formed in the fall of 2008 and played a number of scrimmages against a mix of teams. To help maintain the gains that the school staff saw from this, the CNSF stepped up to provide sponsorship over the winter to an indoor league. The Bears will continue to play in spring 2009, this time as a recognized team in a middle school league.

Dear CNSF,

I wish to offer our deepest gratitude for your support of the Burke School Bears indoor soccer team this winter. Your generosity enabled them to play in two sessions of 13 games. This team was created to help these students learn how to play together as a team, and they did so to a remarkable extent. We had 18 different players attend at least two games and routinely fielded between 12-15 players for each game.

They improved a great deal from the first game to the last and, though the results may not have been what we hoped for when we started, they had fun the entire time. None of these positive experiences would have been possible without your assistance. In many cases, this was their first exposure to organized sports and they are truly grateful to you for helping to provide that opportunity. As a school representative, it means so much to have the business community reach out to these at-risk children and help to restore faith in the community which has so often failed them.

Thank you very much,

Coach Michael Craven
